Pichwai Painting are a time-honored form of painting that originated almost 400 years ago in the ancient town of Nathdwara which is located near Udaipur in the Indian State of Rajasthan. Pichwai Paintings require immense skill and precision and can even take months to complete. This particular painting depicts the ceremonies being performed on a Shani Tree. Shani Tree has been considered as one of the most sacred trees in the Hindu Mythology. It is believed that Lord Rama prayed before a Shani Tree before marching into Lanka where the deity Sita was help captive by Ravan. Since ages, Kings and the Kshatriyas have performed Shani Pooja on this day believing it extends their prosperity and victory over enemies. It is a Horizontal Pichwai Painting made on a cotton cloth(36 x 47inches). It is without frame.
