This Pichwai painting depicts 'Surya'. Surya is the Sanskrit term for Sun. The oldest existing Vedic hymns of the Rig-Veda mention Surya as the one who empowers knowledge, dispeller of darkness, the good and all life. Sometimes he is also referred as a personified deity as in the painting. Pichwai Paintings are made on a cotton cloth with extreme precision and skill and often require months to prepare. It is a Horizontal Pichwai painting made on cotton cloth (35 x 36inches)
