Chaturbhuj Shree Ganesha Æ’?? meaning the one who has four hands. In this Pink Stone sculpture Ganesha is depicted with his four hands. The upper right hand has a Æ’??PharsaÆ’?? or an axe symbolizing cutting the worldly Bonds. The lower right hand is raised with palm called Æ’??AbhayamudraÆ’?? that offers protection for all from all evils. The upper left hand is shown holding a conch, Æ’??ShankhaÆ’?? in Hindi which symbolizes the call to come and pray. The lower left hand holds a special sweet called Modak a favorite sweet of Lord Ganesha.This statue is carved from the soft stone of Orissa by artisans whose ancestors have practiced this craft of stone carving for centuries. Hammers and chisels of various sizes and shapes, called the Muna, Patili, Martual, Thuk-Thuki and Nitana are used to bring life these life-like figures from featureless stone. Once engraved, the finishing Is done by scrapping out the extra material using a flat-edged iron tool.
