Karthikeya is the son of Parvati and Shiva and brother of Ganesha and is also known as Murugan or Subrahmanya, is the Hindu god of war. Traditional scroll painters -patuas, developed the Kalighat painting style and changed their linear narrative styles and adopted single pictures with one or two figures over a period of time. Kalighat paintings were essentially water color paintings executed on paper and are characterized by their bold sweeping brush lines, bold colours and a simplification of forms. They depict Hindu gods, goddesses, and other mythological characters and a variety of themes from daily urban life of that time. Vertical Folk Art of Bengal on Paper in 15x22 inches.
