Asafoetida or hing, is an essential ingredient in Asian cuisine. It has a very strong and unique odor, unpleasant when raw but in cooked dishes it gives a unique flavor. Just a pinch of asafoetida in hot ghee or oil gives wonderful garlicky earthy aroma. A perfect ingredient for those who do not eat onion and garlic.Temper dals, curries, upmas, rasam, soups etc. using hing for an added flavor and aroma. It can also be added to lentils and vegetables while boiling. Asafoetida is also a natural remedy for colic in babies by placing a small amount of warm asafetida on the baby
