Namastey! Let's get to know each other a bit here. This is a small brief below.
The colourful traditional embroidery work phulkari, represents a living tradition that can be traced back hundreds of years and it continues to this day. The origin comes from Panjab. Traditional phulkari embroidery is done on coarse cotton fabric called ?khaddar? which is manually spun and naturally dyed. The coarse weave makes it easy to run the thread to it in order to make the intricate designs. The thread that is used for the embroidery is called ?pat? in Punjabi. The designs are inspirations from life and everyday surroundings. The women even pick the entire bagh as the theme ?dhaniya bagh (coriander garden),satranga bagh (garden of rainbow),leharia bagh (garden of waves), mirchi bagh, gobhi bagh-inspired by vegetables. Nowadays, Handmade phulkari has almost disappeared in Punjab and so only industrially-made phulkaris can be seen in the market. In order to retain the handmade tradition of this craft, Respects Origins is providing the required support to the craftsmen and instilling confidence in them to continue with the tradition.
Respect Origins works to promote arts and crafts from Indian Heritage. They set-up this online store for artisans, who don't not need to promote their products by writing about them or selling them themselves. Respect Origins do all the marketing, courier and payment gateways also.
