Anwesha Tribal Arts & Crafts, a non-governmental handicrafts development organization was established in 1990. It got registered in the same year under SR Act, 1860. It was founded as an association of trained social workers and focused initially on promotion of social work practice in Orissa. Besides this, it has been working for the disadvantaged and marginalized communities of the society with sincerity and commitment from its inception.
Initially, it conducted training, consultancy, documentation and research aiming at enhancing the standard of social work practice. It continued to extend professional support to Development Organizations, conduct training programmes and guide social workers in practice. Then, it got into policy research, Advocacy and promoted issue-based networks of civil society organizations for sustained work.
From the inception, it has been taking of various development projects for tribals, dalits, rural poor, artisans, drought and disaster affected people, displaced persons, vulnerable children and other disadvantaged groups such as people affected by development projects and environment pollution. Child Rights and Gender issues assumed special importance.
