There are innumerable rock-cut sculptures, archaeological monuments, caves and temples like Parsurameswar, Mukteswar, Lingaraj, Puri and that are wonder in stone, the temple chariot of the Sun God at Konark, in addition to the beautiful Stupas and monasteries of Lalitgiri Ratnagiri and Udayagiri built for centuries and embroidered with most beautiful and intricately carved statue and other adornments. The present artisans have kept alive the sculptural traditions of their forefathers. So they are carving exact replicas of the original temple sculptures besides producing a variety of other items. They use ultra-soft white soap stone, and slightly harder greenish chlorite and the still harder pinkish Khan and the hardest of all black granite. |
